Setup guidance and common fixes for the macOS app.

Getting started

1.Install Reel Notes on an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 13 or later.
2.Add an OpenAI API key in Settings and choose a reports folder.
3.Drop a supported video or audio file into a new processing window.
4.Add a short note about what matters, or press Return to skip.

Requirements

• Apple Silicon Mac
• macOS 13 Ventura or later
• An OpenAI API account and API key
• Internet access during transcription and analysis
• Sufficient local storage for proxy media and reports

Troubleshooting

A file does not start processing

Confirm the file still exists, choose a writable reports folder, and test the saved API key from Settings.

Processing stopped

Open the report library and resume the incomplete job. Completed transcript chunks are preserved so successful work is not repeated.

A visual highlight is missing

Vision analysis is optional and can be enabled from the Reel Notes menu. A failed image analysis never prevents the rest of a report from being published.

Open-source software

Reel Notes includes FFmpeg 8.1.2 under the LGPL v2.1 or later. The build excludes GPL and nonfree components.
